Get NZ Writing - School Kit

We were very excited to take part in this great initiative by Warehouse Stationery.

96 000 students took part - swapping parcels of their writing with a class somewhere else in New Zealand.

First we learned about writing metaphors about ourselves.  A metaphor compares two things that are not alike by saying something is something else.

For example:

Ethan is a monster gobbling up food.

Ethan's Dad agreed with this metaphor!  "This is one of Ethan's favourite things....FOOD!"
A super metaphor to describe how much you enjoy food, Ethan.

Hannah is a parrot that sings and chats all day long.

Hannah's Dad commented on Hannah's seesaw, "Yes, that is correct"  A great metaphor to describe yourself, Hannah.

Polly described how much she enjoys art by writing,

Polly is a paintbrush dancing on the page.

Our metaphors descried a little bit about ourselves to our buddy class.
We received 32 blank postcards in our writing kit so we copied our best metaphors onto a postcard each.  Here they are:

We coloured the back of each of our postcards too.  When our postcards are put together they will reveal a secret message for our buddy class. We are wondering what ours will say!

Lastly, as a class, we completed a poster all about us!  We found out that 14 of us could roll our tongues and that we have 79 children in all of our families!

We sent our package on Friday.  It is going to St John's School  in Mairangi Bay, Auckland.
We can't wait to read our postcards and poster from them.
Thanks Warehouse Stationery!
